hahaha  this post makes me laugh....sometimes Graham can be just downright stupid. The way he designed Entrecard produces problems that he did not anticipate. Well, that's how Entrecard works "drop and run" and "reciprocal traffic." I agree with you. I appreciate comments of course but I don't mind if they also don't leave comments nor read at all. That's how it worked. He designed it this way---design a system that gives reciprocal traffic and give them points. What I don't understand is how could he be so putting attention on that complaint about high bounce rate when his system of paid ads is also imperfect , erroneous and unfair. What if the blog does not update regularly and has posts that is one week old, how can we members linger on that blog and read the same freaking post each day and leave comments every time we visit a blog. There are so many Entrecard members whose blogs are just updated weekly and some don't even post after a month. So does he take that into consideration? Entrecard members in the first place should not complain about high bounce rate brought in by Entrecard because that's how it was created. And if they don't like it that way, they should just leave Entrecard. They cannot just bug Graham to develop something and give a solution to a problem they themselves got into. They already know that getting into Entrecard produces traffic but high bounce rate and only reciprocal traffic---so why bother complaining?
And I could not believe Graham listens to this ----and he does not listen to complaints about paid ads?
If that is the case, then I don't think Entrecard will succeed with that. And members will still complain more about the solution ----that if that happens, Entrecard members will complain about not getting a point in a blog which is not updated for days.

hey , do we really need to solve the captcha here twice? just asking.

This is why I don\\\'t have much to do with Entrecard anymore. I simply refuse to have people demand certain parameters or actions in order to have something that I do \\"validated\\" by them.

I mainly write for myself, and because I enjoy the content that I work with. After two years and 500 posts, I think that is enough validation. The sanctimonious few that tend to run wild all too frequently can find better things to do with their time, as I am not inclined to alter my strategy to appease them.

I think there is good and bad in everything. Surely we can't comment on every post that we read but I do try to leave some kind of comment if at all possible. It would be nice if others would reciprocate but I know that is impossible. It is a good post and maybe a bit harsh to some degree but I'm alright with it. I'll be back again!

Hi,

I agree to a point in regards to the EC drop rate. Graham has to be careful here so EC doesn\\\'t come off and another manual click exchange. This is a double edged sword for him as with any incentive based system. Overall, I think EC is moving in the right direction.

As to leaving comments. That is way over the top for any blog owner to expect visitors to leave comments, especially if the blog is a wild card like mine. The visitors never know where I\\\'m going to swing and I always pick extremes just to draw fire to start debates of contentious topics. Blogs like mine tend to scare off a lot of commenters. I know that and I appreciate the one that do comment, even if we are at odds over the issue.

The “I don’t write posts for myself” crowd... I think this really fals into multiple areas. The snob group, as you referenced, and the group that works on the social level. There are many areas here, family blogs where parents share tips, social issues, and personal journals could fall here depending on content.

You are absolutely spot on about people not always being interested in what any given blog may have. In all honesty, I may not have enough knowledge or experience to comment on a topic or simply have no time at the moment to comment.

I personally believe that any commenter is better then none.

You are absolutely right, Stacie. I know I was going overboard when I made that post. But what you've pointed out what exactly what I was trying to say....one, people don't always have time to comment on every blog they visit; two, to expect people to comment is beyond rude, imho; and three, the best way to get people to comment (at least in EC) is to drop cards on those who drop on you. That's called showing love to people who at least make the effort to visit your blog. Thanks so much for stopping by and showing me some EC love. I really appreciate it.
